Getting the ball rolling

Started reading The Gunslinger after I finished The Stand. The thought of Captain Trips and the T/G/Ouroboros viruses intrigues me as an addition of sorts to the story. Maybe not on a mass genocidal scale but at least creation and distribution. I don't think, in my world, a virus will destroy the world, but in the least the creation of such an assortment of devastating viruses created in a lab could be useful. A lady just got rolled into the waiting room Im in with my wife. She looks like someone infected. Her skin is bleached and has no pigment. Her skin is drawn tight over her old bones but looks as if it would ript into a million pieces just by touching it. Its no doubt in my head that this poor woman only has cancer or something along those lines, perhaps alheimers or something equally non contagious, but the way she looks... what if someone infected her? Just her no one else. A testbed for something else. Someones personal human incubator. Developing something so secret and so powerful none will be able to stop it. She is infected and she is defiantly non contagious. Her husband obviously seems to basically be waiting for her to pass. Her red irritated eyelids are encasing her yellowed eyes but its hard to tell if they are red because of the illness or because of crying, are staring at him, it seems in utter anger and disappointment. He doesn't seem to notice...or care he just looks on ignoring her entire existince in the waiting room. He's ashamed and disappointed himself. Perhaps he knows something. Perhaps he knows why she is how she is. Most folks don't care about the elderly. They don't notice they exist. Ironic that he would do the same at his age but understandable her age and fragility reflects his like looking into the mirror. He just seems to smile at here infrequently, hoping in his heart of hearts that it will be enough to pacify her aching body and heart. They could also just be and elderly couple in a waiting room passing the time before their appointment like the 15 other people in here but the first story seems more interesting. She's not here though. But maybe Ill let her be soon.
